Summer is one of the most exciting seasons of the year, especially for kids. School’s out, the sun is shining, and the warm weather is perfect for outdoor activities. As a mom, figuring out fun things to do with your kids during this break can be overwhelming. Last week, we posted about things to do around Baltimore. This week , I wanted to share things anyone anywhere could do. Below are eleven fun activities guaranteed to keep your kids entertained all summer long.
Active Things
- Have a Water Fight – On a hot summer day, there’s nothing more refreshing than a water fight. Fill some water balloons (these are super easy) or grab some water guns, and have a fun splashing session with your kids. You could also set up a sprinkler in the backyard for kids to run around in.
2. Build a backyard obstacle course: Use items found in your backyard like logs, hula-hoops, cones, and jump ropes to create an obstacle course for your kids. It’s an engaging and fun activity that promotes physical activity while encouraging some healthy competition between siblings.
3. Go on a Hike – If your family enjoys being active, why not plan a hiking trip. Choose a scenic trail and pack some snacks and hydration to keep you going. Your kids will love exploring the outdoors and spotting wildlife along the way.

4. Go for a picnic in the park: Pack a basket of your kids’ favorite sandwiches, snacks and drinks and head off to the park. Find a cozy spot under a shade tree and enjoy the beauty of nature while your kids have fun playing outdoor games.
5. Try out a new recipe: Summer is a great time to learn a new recipe and involve your kids in the process. Search for summer meals online and cook up a storm with your little ones. This is not only a fun way to bond with your children, but they’ll also learn cooking skills that last a lifetime.
6. Make a list of ice cream shops within an hour of your house. Make a summer long goal of hitting them all. Depending on how may are in your area, you could do one a week for the whole summer.
Indoor Activities
7. Organize a treasure hunt: Create clues around your house and engage your kids in an exciting and interactive treasure hunt. This activity is bound to not only keep them entertained but also promote teamwork and problem-solving skills.
8. Visit a Museum – Museums are not only educational but also a fun way to spend a day. Choose a museum that your kids will love depending on their interests like science, history or art. Many museums have interactive exhibits and activities for children making it a perfect day out for the whole family.
9. Have an art day: Set up an art station at home and pull out all the materials. Provide them with paper, paints, crayons, colored pencils, and other craft materials to let their creativity run wild.

10. Create a backyard campsite: Set up a tent in your backyard and create a camping experience for your kids. You could also light a bonfire, make s’mores and tell spooky stories. This activity will not only be a fun adventure for the kids but also provide an opportunity to teach them important outdoor skills.
11. Visit a theme park or fair: Take your kids to a funfair where they can play games, go on rides and indulge in some cotton candy and popcorn. It’s a great day out with the family and something that all kids always look forward to.
