My goal is to serve people to the best of my ability. The following policies were created with that in mind.
All cancellations must be done 24 hours prior to the scheduled appointment. Monday appointments must be cancelled by Friday noon. Failure to do so will result in a $75 fee for followup appointments and $150 fee for evaluation. You will not be rescheduled until this fee is payed.
More than three “no show” or less than 24 hour notice cancellations in a 12 month period may result in your care being terminated.
Controlled and Dangerous Substances
Two classes of medications commonly used in mental health are considered “controlled and dangerous substances” by the DEA. However, they are sometimes useful in managing symptoms and the benefits may outweigh the risks. They include stimulants (Ritalin, Concerta, Adderall) and benzodiazepines (Klonopin, Ativan, Valium). I prescribe these judiciously. Any patient receiving them may be asked to have random urine drug screens. Any patient over age 50 will need an EKG prior to starting a stimulant.
Pregnant and Nursing Patients
I believe that a mother’s mental health is paramount in her ability to best care for her children. To that end, I work carefully with new and expecting mothers to best treat their symptoms. No medication is completely risk free, however sometimes the benefits outweigh the risks. I will discuss treatment options with you. Ultimately, it is your decision and responsibility to choose what is best for you and your baby.
After Hours Care
Unfortunately, I am not available after hours. If you are having an emergency, please go to the nearest ER or call your local crisis center. Baltimore County Crisis line: 410-931-2214.
Phone and Email Communications
I can only manage your care through appointments. Periodically, quick questions can be addressed through phone calls, however I will not change medications outside of an appointment. I strive to keep all communications private, however, security breaches are inherent to technology, therefore do not guarantee that email or text is confidential. The only communication I accept via text is cancelling or scheduling appointments.
Everything I know, I learned from others. I feel a strong commitment to give back to the nursing community and, therefore, periodically precept student nurse practitioners. For evaluation and medication management, I will always be in the room with the student and you. For psychotherapy, I will supervise the student and offer a significantly discounted rate. It is always your right to refuse care from a student.
